Activity #3: Creating a Blog.
It has taken me a week to cough up my blog "name". One of my colleagues found this struggle amusing as she has a half dozen blogs. The name is more disposable, not so very personal (as I feel it should be). A name that describes me just has to be very personal. And I don't know how I feel about people I don't know reading my words. Without my knowing them or which words they read. But, after the week I have my name. And it was obvious once my husband reminded me of it: event horizon. I use this to describe varying degrees of commitment. In a black hole, it is that point where you no longer have a choice to pull back. In river rafting, it is that point where you and your boat are committed to the rapid below. We had a cat who started eating the string binding a roast marinating on the kitchen counter. There was a point when she had to continue eating the string as it was certainly not going to come out. (Surgery was the only way to remove the feet of string in her gut. She survived well but avoided string after that point.)
The avatar was the next bump in my road. A symbol to represent me?! I created a messy haired female in bermuda shorts, tropical shirt, sun hat at the base of an erupting volcano. I know the instructions said to set the avatar in a library, classroom or some other inside location. For me science is verb. An attitude. Not bound by walls. I settled for the event horizon picture. Because it is a terrific representation of where I am today! (And will be tomorrow. . .)
