Activity #2: 7.5 lifelong learning habits
I would describe myself as a life-long learner. For me, asking questions and learning something new is like "mind-candy". Learning gives me great pleasure. Reading these habits made me smile because I can see which are easier for me, which much more challenging. I don't like writing goals. I know what I want to do, especially with Web 2.0 tools, but school and family distract me. I understand the value of writing goals, I just don't like to do it. However, I have written my goals and am committed to Friday afternoons being The Day for me to "invest in my future" (not to mention my students').
I have a favorite habit is one that I embrace but had forgotten how important it is. Habit #4 reminds me to practice thinking confidently, becoming confident in my learning. It is so true that once I feel overwhelmed with keeping all my balls in the air, and then I say it aloud, it becomes true. I become officially overwhelmed in my head. Instead, I see that my plate continually expands, my world continually opens and I have humor about the bumps I encounter on my path.
The reason I joined the professional learning groups that I have (Student Engagement Committee, Instructional Technology Users Group and KQED Quest group is because I am playing. And for me, playing often involves learning something new and using it in a creative way.
